Maverick the little kitten came into the world with an additional chromosome, but he doesn’t see himself as any less special because of it.

Maverick, a six-month-old cat with captivating crossed eyes, found himself at the New York Animal Care Center after his previous owners could no longer care for him. His charming personality and affectionate nature quickly won over the hearts of the shelter staff.
Maverick was always ready with head bumps and a never-ending purr, seeking attention from anyone willing to give it. With limited resources at the shelter, volunteers decided to seek out a rescue organization that could provide Maverick with the best possible future.
Their quest led them to Tara Kay, the founder of the Odd Cats Sanctuary located in Salem, Massachusetts. They reached out to her, asking for her help and expertise in giving Maverick a second chance at a loving and fulfilling life.

The Unique Felines is dedicated to providing specialized care for cats and kittens with special needs. They not only agreed to welcome him into their sanctuary but also committed to giving him a forever home and a loving guardian for life.
Maverick came into this world with a rare condition similar to Down Syndrome in humans (having an extra chromosome) and a mild form of hydrocephalus (accumulation of fluid in the brain).
The Odd Cat Shelter
Tara mentioned to Love Meow that despite his unique appearance, Maverick is just like any other feline on the inside.
Upon his arrival at his new abode, Maverick wasted no time in showing his affectionate nature by purring and playfully pawing at Tara. Tara noted that he is quite the social kitty, always ready to engage in a conversation with his characteristic chirping.

The little feline wasted no time in making himself at home, feeling perfectly at ease as if he belonged there all along.
It wasn’t long before they noticed his feisty attitude and endless zest for playtime.

“Although his vision isn’t perfect, Maverick can still see. He may breathe a bit louder due to his unique, squished face, but he’s a content and thriving cat.”
